Second-harmonic generation in germanium-on-insulator from visible to telecom wavelengths

چکیده

The second-order [Formula: see text] process underpins many important nonlinear optical applications in the field of classical and quantum optics. Generally, manifests itself only a non-centrosymmetric dielectric medium via an anharmonic electron oscillation when driven by intense field. Due to inversion symmetry, group-IV semiconductors, such as silicon (Si) germanium (Ge), are traditionally not considered ideal candidates for optics applications. Here, we report experimental observation second-harmonic generation (SHG) Ge-on-insulator (GOI) sample under femtosecond pumping. We especially, measurement SHG signal from GOI telecom S-band pumping at nm.

Second Harmonic Generation Imaging of a Magnetic Topological Insulator

A topological insulator (TI) is a type of quantum material that is insulating in the bulk but metallic on the surface. Due to the unique spin properties of the surface electrons, TIs have attracted much interest for their potential applications in spin-based electronics and quantum computers. Even more exotic effects occur when TIs are brought in contact with magnetic materials. This thesis rep...

On-chip frequency comb generation at visible wavelengths via simultaneous second- and third-order optical nonlinearities.

Microresonator-based frequency comb generation at or near visible wavelengths would enable applications in precise optical clocks, frequency metrology, and biomedical imaging. Comb generation in the visible has been limited by strong material dispersion and loss at short wavelengths, and only very narrowband comb generation has reached below 800 nm. We use the second-order optical nonlinearity ...

Study of the Transition to Instability in Second-Harmonic Generation with Scale Index Method

The emergence of second-harmonic generation (SHG) is a pivotal issue to the development of nano-optical devices and interfaces. Here, we perform a classical analysis of the SHG dynamics with the aim of determining critical values of the electric field. The signals of the SHG process are nonlinear, so it seems reasonable that chaos theory can be a suitable tool to analyze their dynamics. For thi...

Next Generation Device Grade Silicon-Germanium on Insulator

High quality single crystal silicon-germanium-on-insulator has the potential to facilitate the next generation of photonic and electronic devices. Using a rapid melt growth technique we engineer tailored single crystal silicon-germanium-on-insulator structures with near constant composition over large areas. The proposed structures avoid the problem of laterally graded SiGe compositions, caused...

Generation of degenerate, factorizable, pulsed squeezed light at telecom wavelengths.

We characterize a periodically poled KTP crystal that produces an entangled, two-mode, squeezed state with orthogonal polarizations, nearly identical, factorizable frequency modes, and few photons in unwanted frequency modes. We focus the pump beam to create a nearly circular joint spectral probability distribution between the two modes. After disentangling the two modes, we observe Hong-Ou-Man...
